If there’s one businessman who has embraced NIL with open arms it’s Gordon McKernan.
McKernan, who leads the Baton Rouge-based injury attorney firm, has become a face in the NIL world thanks to his aggressiveness when it comes to signing LSU student-athletes to NIL deals.

McKernan has taken his relentless marketing to billboards, buses, and benches.
“Anything worth doing is worth overdoing,” McKernan told WAFB-TV Sports. “It’s kind of a mantra I live my life by.”
During the 2022 college football season, McKernan signed 15 LSU football players to NIL deals.
“It started at one figure, where I was thinking we would do it, maybe $250,000-$500,000. We quickly blew through that $500,000 mark. I haven’t tallied it all up, but it’ll probably be three-quarters of a million to a million total,” McKernan explained.
During his interview with WAFB-TV Sports, McKernan spoke more about NIL and how a personal injury lawyer like himself was able to pair with teenagers in advertising campaigns, and he spoke about what other businesses can do to participate in the NIL space to benefit LSU student-athletes.
Gordon McKernan has NIL deals with the following: the LSU women’s basketball team, LSU commits Shelton Sampson Jr. and Trey Holly, LSU football players Mason Taylor, Jayden Daniels, Josh Williams, John Emery Jr., and Harold Perkins.
